This is the full text of the RouteRTL Academic License 1.0. Several of its terms are those of the RouteRTL Core License 1.0, as its section Other Terms states.

See commercial use and licensing for a summary, and pricing for commercial licences.

RouteRTL Academic License 1.0

https://routertl.dev/legal/academic-license/1.0

Eligible Institutions

This license is available to:

  1. accredited institutions that award academic degrees, and
  2. non-profit public research institutes.

Grant

The licensor grants the institution, and the students and staff it registers, a license to use the software, including its licensed features, for the permitted purposes below, for the term of each registration.

Permitted Purposes

  1. Teaching and coursework.
  2. Student projects and student competitions.
  3. Non-commercial research whose results are published.

Excluded Use

Research funded in whole or in part by a company is commercial use and is not a permitted purpose. So is work whose results, or rights in them, go to a company. That use requires a commercial license under the RouteRTL Core License 1.0.

Use for the benefit of a company, including a company owned by the institution, is not a permitted purpose.

Marking

Every output that the software produces with its licensed features under this license, and that is given to anyone other than the person who produced it, must carry this line, unchanged and visible:

"Produced under a RouteRTL Academic License - not for commercial use."

These outputs include sign-off documents, contract and coverage reports, and audit outputs. The software adds the line. Removing, hiding or altering the line, or producing such an output in a way that leaves it out, is a violation of this license.

Registration

Each user registers with an email address at a domain of the institution. A registration lasts:

  1. 1 year for a student, renewable while the student is enrolled;
  2. 3 years for faculty and research staff, renewable while they are employed by the institution.

For a course, the licensor may issue a classroom registration for the course duration. The instructor holds the classroom registration and registers the course.

Acknowledgement

The licensor asks that publications based on work done with the software acknowledge RouteRTL. For example: "Builds and simulations used RouteRTL (https://routertl.dev)."

Ending

A registration ends at the end of its term, or when the user leaves the institution. The licensor may end a registration that is used outside the permitted purposes, after notice under Violations.

Other Terms

The sections Acceptance, Copyright License, Distribution License, Notices, Changes and New Works License, Patent License, Fair Use, Licensed Features, Noncompete, Competition, New Products, Discontinued Products, Sales of Business, No Other Rights, Patent Defense, Violations, No Liability, Governing Law and Definitions of the RouteRTL Core License 1.0 (LICENSE-PROPRIETARY) apply to this license. In those sections, a permitted purpose means a permitted purpose under this license. In this license, a company is an organization, as defined there, that operates for profit.
